Setting up your Internet email client software to use your new PonyMail mailbox is really quite simple. Basically you have only a few settings in your Email software which need to be pointed to your PonyMail account. Let's go over now:
- POP3 Server
- A POP3 (Post Office Protocol) server is simply a piece of software running on a host computer which handles the outgoing exchange of mail between the host computer (in this case PonyMail) and the client software program (such as Eudora, Netscape Mail, etc.) running on your machine. Set this field to: mail.ponymail.com
- SMTP Server
- SMTP is an acronym for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, and is a set of specifications for handling incoming electronic mail to the server. SMTP allows your email client software to interface with the host computer and send your email messages, which the host then either stores (if the user your emailing resides there) or forwards it along to the correct host elsewhere on the Internet. Set this field to: mail.ponymail.com
It is important to note that some internet server provides, especially the free ones do not allow you to use other SMTP servers except their own.
If you find yourself having problems sending mail, you should change this setting to that of your internet providers SMTP server name.
- Username
- The username is simply your unique name at PonyMail. You are given the opportunity to select your username on the PonyMail contract for email services. The username must be unique to our host computer, otherwise how could it tell each person apart? Your email client software will have a field requesting your username, which identifies you to our host computer.
Your Username must be in the form: username@ponymail.com- Password
- This should be the only other field you need to give your email client software. You have the opportunity to select your own unique password on the PonyMail contract for email services. Enter this password into your email client software.
That's really about all you need to know in order to get your PonyMail email box up and running with your favorite client software. It's worth noting that some packages, such as Eudora, will require you to enter your username and POP3 server on one line. For example, in Eudora, their is a field which requests your POP Account. In this space, you would type: username@ponymail.com. Then Eudora asks for the SMTP server in a different field (discussed above).
If you have any trouble or questions, just send us a message at PonyMail@ponymail.com and we'll get back to you right away.
