Installing Pegasus Mail for Windows with Winsock Support

What Pegasus allows a user to do is to download new mail from your Web web space (or UNIX) account, and to send e-mail. Any mail which resides in folders in your POP account cannot be accessed without an e-mail manager like Pegasus (WinPMail). It provides an easy way for someone to check for any new mail and to send out e-mails and files.

Installing Pegasus Mail for Windows is not very hard. You must first get a copy of the software which can be found on the Pegasus Site
After installing the software, The Pegasus Setup program will create an icon for your program manager. Then run Pegasus by double-clicking on the new icon. The first thing you should see is the following dialog:

If WinPMail was installed in c:\pmail (recommended) then the Home mail path should not be changed. The user name field can be anything you want, but it generally should be the user's first or last name, or the user's account name on one of the Novell servers (if you are on a network). To avoid this dialog both each time you launch WinPMail, click the check box to save the username info in WIN.INI.

To enable WinPMail to work through a winsock connection, select the Preferences option under the file menu. The various fields should be filled in as follows:

If enclosures are preferred instead of attachments, then that option should be selected as well. After completing the form, exit from WinPMail and relaunch the program. There should be a new item under the File menu called Network configuration. This dialog box must be filled in before Pegasus Mail can send or receive mail.

The various fields should be filled in similar to this. The username.context/password should be for server specified as the POP3 host. The POP3 and SMTP host should always be just ponymail.com.

In the Advanced Configuration Options the From field can be filled in if you have an e-mail POP or ALIAS address (such as xyz@domain.com). The other options are generally up to the user, but the recommended settings are indicated above. The Delete retrieved mail on host should be turned on if you tend to read all email from a remote location like your computer. If it is left off then new mail is downloaded to the remote computer but left on your Web space as well.

Once everything is set up, using WinPMail is pretty easy. If you want to check your new mail, click on the icon in the menu bar or select Read new mail under the File menu. To send a mail message, click on the icon and type your message. You can also set up address books and other standard Pegasus Mail features.

Get used the the Pegasus help files. They are a great rescource should your run into some problems. We regret that PonyMail.com cannot give support to Pegasus features. Should you need additional information, please visit the official Pegasus home page.
