Setting Up WS_FTP
WS_FTP provides ease of use for the beginner plus a full set of functions for the power user. You can download the latest LE version or order the PRO version at IPSWITCH's Web site
The left half of the main window is the local information. The right half of the main window is the remote information.
In each half of the main window there are two list boxes. The upper box is a list of directories while the lower half is a list of files.
Just to the right of the two listboxes are a column of buttons. See example below.

Session Setup
First set up your sessions options as in example below:

When you start WS_FTP this screen will automatically load over the main program.
The first time you startup your program you will need the enter the information.
You can enter your password if you wish. If you do not the server will prompt you for
your password when you log on.

Setup Options
Click on the OPTIONS button at the bottom of the main program the bring up this setup screen:

Click on PROGRAM OPTIONS to being up this screen and make sure your configuration is setup as in example below:

Click on the ASCII EXTENSIONS BUTTON to bring up this screen if you wish to specify transfer file as ascii extensions.
Otherwise all transfers will be binary as noted in example.

Extension Conversions
You can setup your configuration to automatically convert the htm extension on your computer to html when uploading to
Internet Communications server by clicking on the EXTENSION CONVERSION button under OPTIONS as noted in the following example.

Configuring Viewers
Viewers can be configured by setting them up in the file associations under OPTIONS.
If you want to view a file while you are up loading or downloading files you will find this very helpful.

Now you are ready dialup to your Web space

Dialing Up Remote Host
Your profile information is now entered. You can connect to a remote host (either you temporary address or permanent domain name) by simply clicking on the connect button, choosing the host from the name list and then clicking on the OK button.
Logon On to Remote Host

Once connected the server will place you in your own home directory.

Your public_html directory

Double click on the public_html to move into that directory

Uploading Files

Your first file in any directory must be called index.html

To upload click on the file or files in you local directory then click on the--> The system with then begin uploading your files.
You can upload multiple files at once by selecting all the files you wish to upload before clicking on the upload button.

Renaming A File
To change the name of a file click on remote host rename button. An entry box will popup prompting you to enter the new filename.
Enter the new filename then click OK and the new filename will appear in the host window.

Making a new Directory
You can have subdirectories in your public_html directory. To make a new directory click on remote host MkDir button
and again an entry box will popup for you to enter the new directory name. Then Click OK and the new directory will appear in the remote host window.

You now should be ready to logon to your homepages with Netscape Navigator. If everything has been loaded correctly
you should be able bring up your homepages in your browser and see them online.
